What does it mean to remember a city that is constantly rewriting itself?
We are delighted to come together with Associação Audio-Visual CUT (Macao) to co-present a special screening of “Made In Macao: Random Access Memory“.
Since the 1999 handover, marking its transition from Portuguese colony to Chinese Special Administrative Region, Macao has hovered in a state of perpetual liminality.
The programme brings together five short films from Macao — spanning docu-fiction, animation, essay film, cine-magic, and everything in between. Each work functions as a distinct spatio-temporal coordinate, and collectively they form a moving database of a city in flux. The colonial ghosts emerge as unstable forms of memory: manipulated, rewritten, and abruptly erased. Neon lights and mechanical rhythms overload the senses, while bodies, sounds, and consciousness mutate amidst rapid transformation. Family memories linger like afterimages between these shifting landscapes. Across these films, fragmented histories and lived experiences are woven into an evolving portrait of Macao — a city that forgets even as its people continue to remember.
